This month, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on not one, but two amazing gardeners who have brought creativity, dedication, and a wealth of experience to their plots at the Leongatha Community Garden.  Let’s dive into their inspiring stories!

Gardener Ana: The Tomato Queen with a Net of Protection

First up, we’re celebrating Ana, a seasoned gardener whose plot is a masterclass in productivity and innovation.

Ana’s garden plot is a sight to behold, especially her towering tomato plants, which are protected by an impressive net infrastructure. This clever setup keeps birds and pests at bay, allowing her tomatoes to grow big, red, and oh-so-delicious. 🍅❤️

But Ana’s expertise doesn’t stop there. If you’re planning to grow cabbage in the coming months, you’ll want to keep an eye on her plot. Her meticulous care and innovative techniques make her garden a must-watch for anyone looking to up their gardening game.

Ana’s dedication and wealth of experience are an inspiration to us all. If you’re looking for tips on growing thriving, pest-free crops, Ana’s plot is the place to learn!

Richard and Family: Masters of the Climbing Bean Teepee

Next, we’re celebrating Richard and his family, whose creative gardening techniques have taken their plot to new heights—literally!

Their climbing bean teepee is a stroke of genius. Using bamboo poles and twine, they’ve created a sturdy, rustic structure that their beans are absolutely thriving on. The teepee not only saves space but also adds a charming touch to their garden plot.

But the beans aren’t the only stars of the show. The rest of the bed is filled with corn, which is loving the warm weather some (not so many) of us have been enjoying!! By the way the combination of beans and corn is a classic example of companion planting—beans fix nitrogen in the soil, benefiting the corn, while the corn provides a natural trellis for the beans to climb. It’s a win-win!

Join the Celebration!

Both Ana and Richard and family have shown us that with creativity, dedication, and a little love, anyone can create a thriving, productive garden.

If you’re inspired by their stories, why not try your hand at a climbing bean teepee, experiment with companion planting, or set up a protective net for your tomatoes (well maybe something to think about for next year)?

The possibilities are endless!

Let’s give a big round of applause to Ana and Richard and family for their amazing contributions to our gardening community. Congratulations on being our Gardeners of the Season - you’ve truly earned it! 👏🌻
